He is a buddy. His service exemplifies that boundaries are within his reach. With 38 years of government service, even time is not his limit.

He is a buddy. His service exemplifies that boundaries are within his reach. With 38 years of government service, even time is not his limit.

Dr. Salvador B. Romo retires from his position after 12 years of service as the director of the Philippine Science High School – Cagayan Valley Campus (PSHS – CVC). With a progressive mindset, he inspires development and innovations inside the academic system.

When asked by the previous Department of Science and Technology Secretary Estrella Alabastro last 2008, Romo guaranteed that the then starting PSHS – CVC can transfer to its permanent site in 2 years. He recognizes that as part of a premier science high school, providing quality STEM education is expected from his service.

Indeed, Romo’s great responsibility is well-committed as evident in the physical growth in the campus. He has initiated the building of several infrastructures on the slope of the mountain that caters to the educational standard for the Pisay population.

Romo has also nurtured professional relationships inside the campus. He establishes himself as a capable and dynamic leader. “I have seen how you made unpopular choices. At first, I didn’t understand them, but in the long-run, I was able to decipher the purpose,” addresses Rosalinda Luwang, the chief of Curriculum and Instructions Division of PSHS – CVC, to Romo during his retirement program.

The members of the PSHS executive committee establish Romo as a mentor to his co-directors and co-public servants. “He is an amiable father to all of us. Oftentimes we would call him “tatay” because he really acts like a real father of the [executive committee],” shares the former director of PSHS – Eastern Visayas Campus, Dr. Reynaldo Garnace.

Outside the PSHS system, Romo remains to be involved. Under his supervision, the PSHS CVC constantly reaches different communities. He initiates serving the people and promoting STEM to the youth.

The development of his capacity drives his greatness in the communities he works with. The impact of his service overcomes the boundary of time. He is a public servant, a leader, a mentor, and most especially, the buddy.
